SIMON, THE CHAMPION

On the last day of the Biathlon World Championships in Hochfilzen/Austria, Simon Schempp fulfilled his dream: After winning "only" medals in team competitions at the Olympics and World Championships (in total 7!), the 28-year-old crowned his performance on Sunday at the mass start race over 15 kilometers with the first single medal – a golden one. "I have waited a long time for this day," he said afterwards, "I knew it will work one day." Simon received support before his world title, amongst others from a mental coach, who sent him a text message before the race: „the more often I read it, the more free my mind became." However, there is not much time to celebrate, since there are still three World Cup weekends to go, the next in Pyeongchang (2 to 5 March) where the 2018 Olympic Winter Games will take place. Afterwards another race will be in Kontiolahti (10 to 12 March) before the World Cup finals will take place at the Holmenkollen in Oslo on 17 March.
