Following a tough season in which the World Championships in Hochfilzen were the high point, Germany's best biathlete Simon Schempp will take a short breather and treat himself to a vacation in Thailand with his girlfriend and team colleague Franziska Preuß. They hope to enjoy a spell of tranquility there, recharge their batteries and hone the last little under-the-weather blips on the radar screen for Simon the season had its ups and downs. Illness laid him low a number of times, preventing his participation at the test for the Olympics 2018 in Pyongchang, South Korea. For that reason, his joy was - and still is - all that much greater that he was able to claim his first single victory at the World Championships, after the victory in the mass start Mixed Relay race. Following his short time-out, the 28-year old will launch his so-called summer training at the beginning of May - in preparation for the new season.
